Particle Zoo are four hipsters straight out of New Jersey’s thriving underground music scene doing everything possible to be heard. They are gearing up for the release of their third independent album, Go-Go, a compilation of alt rock with loud hard pop beats.To celebrate the album’s debut, they will perform at Maxwell’s in Hoboken on June 27. The show is their first time back to the venue since their sold-out show in February. The band members are Jay Holler, Scott Greene, Jay Dodds and Jeff DeVito. Their live shows have an ’80s garage influence, and their cover of the Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" is a return to indy punk. We recently caught up with the band.
EM – Where are you from?
JD – Wayne.
EM – Who are your influences?
JD – I don’t know.
SG – Deep Purple, The Green Lantern, Geddy Lee.
EM – Why did you become a musician?
SG – Family business.
JD – I don’t know.
JH – My grandma got me organ lessons when I was 6 years old. I’ve
been involved in music ever since.
EM – Where have you performed?
SG – Everywhere.
JD – All over, mostly.
EM – What is your favorite day of the week?
JD – Tuesday?
EM – What are the last three CDs you bought?
JD – The Remedy Session, The Realistics, Tom Waits.
EM – How would you describe your music?
JV – The result of some freakish cosmic event.
JD – Mostly good.
JH – Rock for retards.
EM – Are you looking for mainstream exposure?
JD – I suppose. I want to not have to work.
EM – What professional plans do you have for the future?
JD – To set trucks on fire.
EM – What is the best part about your job?
JD – Laying around, doing nothing.
JH – Not having one.
JV – Performing surgery on small mammals.
