Dear Editor:
During the past few months, I promised the 3rd Ward residents that, if elected, I would be an advocate for their needs and not the needs of the political leaders. Clearly that message was heard. My neighbors believed in me, and I am fortunate and honored to represent them come July 1.
I owe this victory to the voters and also to the small group of my family and friends who devoted their time and effort to stand up to the coercion, harassment and intimidation of the well-funded political machine that feared an independent councilperson. My thanks also go to the youth of our community who showed that respect and knowledge of our residents will overcome the legions of out-of-town students recruited by Dave Roberts and Hoboken United.
I look forward to representing my neighbors on the City Council. I will support and work for all initiatives that will better our community, regardless of the sponsor, and I will steadfastly oppose those which will not. At the same time, I hope that my new colleagues will embrace my ideas and not be bound by the dictates of politicians.
