My endorsement for 6th Ward Councilman

Dear Editor:

I am writing to express my gratitude to my friends and neighbors in the 6th Ward for their support in the recent City Council Election. For a first-time candidate, with no campaign budget to speak of, I am happy with my showing and for the opportunity to represent you.

I am also happy that voters in the 6th Ward still have a chance on June 10 to elect an Independent City Council person. I am writing today to endorse Daniel deCavaignac, of Hoboken Alliance, to represent the 6th Ward.

I ran my campaign focused on the issues of taxes and spending. While he is a great neighbor, taxpayers cannot afford four more years of Nino Giacchi on the City Council. He has voted unquestioningly with the Mayor to spend millions of dollars in parking surplus to balance the budget. He voted unquestionably with the Mayor to add $1.8 million to the largest spending plan in Hoboken history. He says the right things but votes for the Mayor, and against the taxpayers.

Daniel is also a great neighbor, but he is willing to take the side of the residents of our ward. He stood up by refusing to raid the parking surplus to balance the budget. He stood up for us by challenging the city to do more with less. He stands with us by demanding that the city keep its financial house in order. He has fresh solutions and the independence to pursue them.

Hoboken is a wonderful place, and we need a city councilman who will preserve what we have, and work to make it better, without forgetting that someone has to pay the bill. Because I didn’t win doesn’t mean that I am no longer interested in what goes on in our city. People are so disgusted with politics that they stay home and don’t vote, but you know we can make a difference if we really want to. Please join me in voting for Daniel deCavaignac on June 10. Thanks.
