Concerning senior citizens

Dear Editor:

As a senior citizen I do my job. I may be a Commissioner but in name only. The title means no extra money, just a good soldier to the senior citizen population. My lobbying in Trenton with elected and appointed officials had a direct impact for seniors to open up the time period for half-price fares. I believe in fighting for senior citizens because we’re the grassroots of America. We seniors have a unique faith in America’s future. We must not lock our family out of our feelings. Let them care for you. But we are locked out of health benefits which really a big concern in many lives of seniors because prescription drugs are necessary and expensive.

On Sunday morning talk shows you have the President’s advisor talk about taxes he needs but does he realize the bad economy and how the American people are struggling? Men and women are losing their jobs. We should get some support from our politicians we elect and send our thoughts off to Washington with value and principle with a good feeling to have in your heart!

Mr. President we still must worry about that terrorist leader Bin Laden, who will try to destroy America, but we want to live in peace! We need leadership from our elected officials with no anxiety or distress. But lastly, my fellow senior citizens, let’s remember the role we must play at election time.

Thank you and God Bless America with hope and pride.

Sincerely,
Louis V. Saliceti
Jersey City Mayor’s Commission on Senior Affairs
