Dear Editor:
Two weeks ago, on this page, I posed what I thought was a perfectly reasonable and pertinent question about the new municipal budget, i.e., how it is that property tax revenues are expected to be lower this year despite the fact that tax rates are remaining the same, while there seems to be increasingly more taxable property as a result of continuing development. At the end of my letter, I asked if perhaps someone from the administration could explain this, and I was disappointed this past week to find no such response.
I’d like to believe that City Hall monitors these letters, this being the main ongoing public forum in town. While there may be a perfectly good answer to my question, by not responding, the administration creates the impression that either a) they don’t consider it important or necessary to respond to legitimate public inquiries, or b) they don’t have a good answer and don’t want to acknowledge it.
I look forward to, and would greatly appreciate, seeing a response in next week’s paper. I’ll be happy to find out that my skepticism is unfounded.
