Pick up after your dog or you will face a penalty

Dear Editor:

The Union City Board of Commissioners has adopted an amendment to the City ordinance regulating the cleaning up of dog droppings by dog owners on the City’s streets.

Please be advised that, effective immediately, “any person walking or otherwise maintaining a dog on the City’s streets or sidewalks shall at all times maintain with them a plastic bag or other devise manufactured or produced for the immediate removal of dog feces left by their dog. Any person failing to maintain a plastic bag or other device shall be subject to the penalties provided for by Section 1-6.1 of this code.”

In other words, all residents walking dogs in public are now required to have with them something in which to dispose of the dog’s droppings. Any dog walker who does not have something with which to pick up the droppings and properly dispose of will face a summons and fine.
