Don’t tolerate corruption

Dear Editor:

How can Al Sullivan’s column make the county executive’s breaking the law sound so trivial? Suppose I worked for you and I stole $137.60 a week from you for 14 years? Wouldn’t you want me to go to jail? Your suggestion that an elected official’s extortion should go unpunished is absurd. That would set a terrible precedent for the other officials. I live in Brazil where government corruption is rampant to the point that more tax money is stolen than spent on public works projects, health or education. If crooks like this go unpunished, America will go down the same road. Hudson County is infamous for this sort of thing, and your glib attitude certainly indicates why corruption continues to be tolerated.
