Thanks for making our children your number one priority

Dear Editor:

Public spaces for recreational activities are a rare commodity in Hoboken and other urban centers. As the mother of a young child, I greatly value our existing park and recreational space and utilize these facilities on a daily basis. That is why I was delighted last week to learn that this city was awarded a grant to construct a new toddler play area in Church Square Park.

It is important for the city’s government to maintain and upgrade our precious public spaces, and I commend Mayor Roberts and Director Wilday for their dedication to a valuable resource which benefits all residents.

I applaud the administration for its creativity and determination in developing open spaces citywide. The recently announced Jackson Street and Castle Pointe Skateboard park, as well as the proposed Academy Bus open space plan, shows that recreational spaces can be created, even in the most densely populated cities.

As for Church Square Park, as the population of toddlers and young children increases, our existing facilities are in constant use. This grant will provide valuable assistance to benefit our youngest residents. It’s comforting to know that our Mayor, Deputy Wilday and Director Garcia have made servicing our children through open space and recreation their number one priority.
