Make me laugh Miss Kitty’s presents comedy on Wednesday nights

Something funny is happening in downtown Hoboken. Every Wednesday night, Miss Kitty’s Saloon on Bloomfield Street presents Comedy Night, hosted by the very talented Hudson County resident Sharon Simon.

After being frustrated with the lack of support for comedy in Hoboken, Simon decided to co-produce a comedy show with longtime friend Kevin Wellech. The show, already in its third week, attracts a large crowd of mostly local residents, with its talented comics and the drink specials at the bar.

Performers stand in the back of the venue’s large area and do their routines. Some of the featured acts include comedians Rick Mann, Matt Schaum and former Hudson Reporter writer Prescott Tolk. Tolk performs regularly in New York City comedy clubs and at Rascals in West Orange and Ocean.

"This is a great location and a great event for Hobokenites," Tolk said. "Sharon is bringing very funny comedians to Miss Kitty’s every week."

Simon has been performing comic-improv for more than 10 years. She studied at the Groundlings improvisational club in Los Angeles and has been recently featured on Saturday Night Live. She has also taken part in plays and independent films.

"We feature some of the area’s top comics. I wanted to give comedy a dollar and fifty cents and send it to Hoboken," Simon said.

Simon and Wellech decided to bring their act to Miss Kitty’s because they were familiar with the owner and the layout of the venue. The bar has proven to be a successful place for comedy.

"Us comics have a place to try out material, and Hoboken residents get to watch top-notch comedy for the price of a drink," Simon said. "So far things are going great. I just want to keep the momentum."

Miss Kitty’s Saloon is located at 94 Bloomfield St. The show starts at 8 p.m. For more information call (201) 792-0041 or e-mail Simon at sharonbsimon@hotmail.com.E. Mulero
