Dear Editor:
I would like to commend the staff and corporate board of the Union City Urban Enterprise Zone for their efforts on behalf of our city’s commercial areas.
The positive changes I have seen on Bergenline and Summit avenues over the past month or so are heartening to me. As you know, one of my priorities as Mayor is to rejuvenate our shopping districts in order to bring in more visitors and to attract new business to our community.
With a slight alteration of work hours, the UEZ-sponsored clean-up crew that sweeps and removes trash from Bergenline and Summit avenues after city work hours has been able to do a much better job of keeping the avenues clean. The improvement is very noticeable and commendable.
I am also very pleased with the new banners the UEZ has installed not only in the shopping areas but at sites in the city that are useful to residents, such as City Hall and the library.
UEZ Coordinator Amada Avila, UEZ Inspector Cosmo Cuocci, and the entire UEZ Corporate Board, as well as many merchants who care about our community, are working diligently on improving the business climate in Union City. It is another example of how working together can benefit us all.
Brian P. Stack
Mayor
