Dear Editor:
I recently attended the opening day festivities for our “2002” Hoboken Little League Season. It was a great day. Our children had fun marching down Washington Street with some of our local and New York firemen. Vincent Barbo was outstanding singing the National Anthem and hundreds of parents and citizens were out there cheering our children. The only thing that was disconcerting to me was the hoard of politicians that spent most of the ceremony thanking each other when most of them don’t do a damn thing for the Little League Organization. They should have spent more time thanking Charles Rozzi (Superintendent of Recreation) and staff who do a superb job year in and year out making sure our children have a fun and safe year in all Hoboken sport activities. Piere Manieri (Superintendent of Parks) and staff who do a fabulous job maintaining The Little League Field, and it looked terrific on opening day. The newly elected Little League Officers, who are doing a tremendous job and from what I have seen are going to make the “2002” Little League Season the best one ever. Finally the volunteer coaches who donate time out of their busy schedules for the benefit of our children.
I have never witnessed a Little League Opening Day Ceremony where so much time was spent on politicians patting each other on the back.
