‘WIN’ is the weakest link

Dear Editor:

I too was recently approached by a representative of the “WIN” team. I graciously accepted their literature explaining what they could offer me, as a Weehawken resident. Examples of their plans called for the revitalization of Park Avenue and the refurbishment of our playgrounds. These projects, I know, have already begun and have been on-going, successes by the current administration.

As far as traffic and parking goes, these issues are also recognized and will continue to be scrutinized by our township officials, in accordance with the growth and development of our community. Needless to say, these concerns are valid, and are continuously being addressed, rather than ignored by Mayor Turner and his town council.

The WIN party also pledges to “promote the safety of residents and visitors.” Weehawken’s crime rate is currently at its lowest rate in many years.

Being open-minded and curious, as every voter should be, I continued to read this pamphlet. It didn’t take long for me to notice that the “Shades” portion of their map excluded the names of its’ streets. It did, however, list a “Steep Cliff” Street, which puzzled me. I was raised in this special section of Weehawken and still have family residing there. Neither I, nor my family, know of such a street. The exclusion of the individual names of our streets is a personal slap in my face, and I believe the faces of my neighbors. Would it have been so difficult for the “WIN” team to do some homework?

When I asked this representative of “WIN” for an explanation, his response was simply, “it was ‘the printer’s’ error.” Hm, already passing the buck?

Mayor Turner and his party have never insulted the “Shades” in such a manner. They have always been here for us and recognized us as a vital part of Weehawken. They have, and always will be here to respond to our needs.

“WIN,” not this time. Your Are the weekest link, good-bye!
