Mayor Roberts should be applauded for finding a solution to our long-time parking problem

Dear Editor:

This letter is to thank Mayor David Roberts for his somewhat, common sense solution to a long- time parking problem in our neighborhood (9th to 10th streets on Castle Point Terrace.) There were very serious and sometimes dangerous problems with parking on this block. This is a dead- end street located directly on the outskirts of Stevens Institute of Technology. Mayor Roberts took a street that has 85 registered residents with permits with only 36 legal parking spaces. After surveying the situation and talking to the residents, the Mayor implemented a trial, experimental, angled, parking plan for the residents of the 900 block of Castle Point Terrace.

This plan turned 36 parking spaces into 86 parking spaces! This plan takes 50 cars off the streets of Hoboken. This not only helps the residents of the 900 block, but also helps the surrounding areas where these 50 cars were being parked.

This plan incorporates fresh, new ideas from a fresh, new Mayor and should be applauded. This plan also provides a lane for emergency vehicles to pass which has been a major safety issue in the past.

This lane also alleviates an existing problem of garbage removal.

Hoboken’s parking problems are far from being over and are truly complex. This trial, experimental plan and other plans that this administration is working on, are definite strides in the right direction. Again Mayor Roberts, all of your efforts are truly appreciated.
