Native cinema A look at some local films featured at the Back East Film Festival

From a 12-minute action adventure short about a cop and a criminal who kill each other during a high speed car chase ("Get the Hell Out Of Heaven") to an 84-minute romantic comedy about a guy who agrees to marry a Connecticut socialite to get out Jersey City ("Peroxide Passion"), The Back East Picture Show promises to have something for everyone.Billed as a four-day competitive film festival, The Back East Picture Show kicks off today, Thursday, April 25 at 11 a.m. and will run through Sunday, April 28. All screenings will take place at the Hudson Street Cinemas, 5 Marine View Plaza, on the corner of Hudson and First streets in Hoboken. Here are just some of the movies being offered. A Walk in the Park

In A Walk in the Park, Tom and Amy have decided to Rollerblade through Central Park on their first date. The 32-minute film chronicles the interesting characters they meet along the way.

Bust A Move

Saturday, April 27, 2:15 p.m., Theater 1

Bust a Move is the story of Charlie, a tollbooth collector who wants to move out of the basement of his parents’ New Jersey house. Unfortunately, his plans are foiled when a collection agency demands payment for his community college loans.

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

In Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Jackie Egan re-dubs a 1950s Sci-fi movie with absurd new dialogue, new scenes and an alien dance number.

Hoboken Tales

Set in Hoboken, the 98-minute movie features four modern day vignettes – which range from bawdy to endearing. The stories are told through distinct voices: a barber, a pizzaboy, a fisherman and a baker.

Mr. Rose

Described as Mr. Holland’s Opus meets The Texas Chainsaw Massacre if the chainsaws were replaced with chocolate donuts, Mr. Rose is the story of the interactions between a music teacher with a donut fetish and a passion for power rock and the seventh grade students who drive him to the brink of insanity.

In Your Honor, Larry Bender is a bored and frustrated business executive who indulges in minor transgressions so that he may be tried in front of a sexy judge with whom he is infatuated.
