Dear Editor:
While many people may be excited by the recent opening of Castle Point Park, they may not realize that a fully accessible waterfront north and south of this new park is in jeopardy.
Stevens has laid out development plans extending from Sinatra Park all the way through Union Dry Dock and the Maxwell House plant (except for Castle Point Park, which is on land Stevens leased to the city). These plans include a wave tank, an athletic facility with a soccer field and other buildings all built over, on or near the water’s edge. This flies in the face of everything the citizens of Hoboken have fought for in gaining access to a continuous waterfront park.
I would like to see Mayor Roberts and his administration leave a continuous waterfront park as its legacy and not be remembered as the administration that allowed Stevens to expand its campus to the water’s edge. The waterfront belongs to the community of Hoboken and not to Stevens.
