Shamrock wishes and Guinness dreams Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Hudson County style

To say there’s a surfeit of Irish bars in Hudson County would be the understatement of the year. Needless to say there are plenty of spots to stop in for a pop on St. Patrick’s Day this year. Here are just a few of the many Irish watering holes in Hudson County.

Katie Ryan’s

239 Marin Blvd. Jersey City, 435-9210

With paper shamrocks dangling from the low tin ceiling and a carved wood sign above a big-screen TV that reads, "A productive drunk is the bane of a moralist," and Guinness on tap, Katie Ryan’s is one of Hudson County’s perfect St. Patrick’s Day spots.

Hamilton Park Ale House

708 Jersey Ave., Jersey City (659-9111)

Hamilton Park Ale House will be passing out free St. Paddy’s Day t-shirts on Sunday. The pub also serves international cuisine, and has daily seafood and pasta specials.

McMahon’s Brownstone Ale House

1034 Willow Ave., Hoboken

With a bar menu, pool table, dart board and dance floor, McMahon’s offers a little bit of something for everyone. This weekend they will be serving their traditional corn beef and cabbage and Irish soda bread.

Mulligan’s

159 First St., Hoboken, 876-4101

Like most Irish bars in Hudson County, paper shamrocks are dangling from the ceiling of Mulligan’s this week. What sets this particular pub apart from the other Irish bars is that Mulligan’s is the only spot in Hudson County that shows English Premiere League soccer matches.

O’Donoghues

205 First St., Hoboken, 798-5595

While you won’t find green beer on tap, you will find a moose head hovering over the bar at O’Donoghues. So drink up!

P.J. Ryans

First Street and Marin Boulevard, Jersey City, 239-7373

From corn beef and cabbage to bagpipe music, P.J. Ryans will be celebrating St. Paddy’s Day Irish style.

Willie McBride’s

616 Grand St., Hoboken, 610-1522

Beyond the tropical shark tank nestled between the bottles of booze behind the bar, Willie McBride’s is famous for the lethal Irish car bomb, a cocktail which consists of a shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream mixed with Jameson’s Irish Whiskey dunked into a pint of Guinness.

On Sunday, the bar will also serve corn beef and cabbage and feature live Irish music by the Cray & Dempsey Experience.
