Dear Editor:
On Sunday, December 23, 2001 Jersey City’s own William J. Wolfe treated the children of Jersey City again, as he has for the past number of decades, to a gala holiday party and gift distribution affair at Public School #8. This event was attended by our Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham, the First Lady Sandra B. Cunningham and a myriad of other government officials and sports celebrities. Although Willie Wolfe is officially retired from government service and is not feeling up to par, he continued this year his tradition of sharing and caring for the children of our fair city. Over 600 children attended and immensely enjoyed a magic show, clowns, cartoon characters, a sing along and an opportunity to meet various sports figures from the past and present. The party was not over until each child left with toys, books and refreshments to take with them.
The party itself is certainly to be remembered as a success, and we must recognize the unsung hero of many years to the young and senior populations of Hudson County, our very own Willie Wolfe. Willie stated that at first, due to his health, was not going to schedule the party this year; however, after the tragic events of September 11 was determined to again, attempt to brighten the holiday season for the many children he has assisted in the past years. Willie’s unselfish dedication to this event and many other charitable efforts has taken him away from his family and homelife.
May God Bless Willie and his family, and may he be aware that he has made and continues to make Jersey City a better place for all of us.
