Parking rules will hurt residents

Dear Editor:

I’m convinced that this city council is only interesting in catering to the Hoboken “transient” resident, meaning those that rent or buy a unit, but actually only live here for about 2-3 years, then move on. Which at this point is sounding wiser and wiser to those of us who have been loyal residents for years.

This town used to be so easy to live in and commute from, but the quality of life is shrinking. Unfortunately, Hoboken has now just become a greedy, little city and a chore to deal with. Hiking residential parking permit rates form $5 to $35 seems a tad inflated, no? I wouldn’t really mind coughing up the increase if it could be justified by anything…especially now that there are more residents than ever purchasing the permit. Even the PATH train only increased 50 cents after so many years.

Yes, there is too much congestion in this small city. Parking your vehicle each night should not be a 20-30 minute event. I agree that somehting needs to be done to make more residential street parking avaiable, but I think your new parking rule proposal is ridiculous. Hopefully it will send a non-verbal message to anybody even thinking of moving here or starting a business in Hoboken because they think it’s easy and quaint– it’s not. Don’t!
