Veterans say thank you all for not forgetting us

Dear Editor:

The week of November 12 through 17 was proclaimed "Veterans Pride Week in Union City" by Mayor Brian P. Stack and the Union City Board of Commissioners.

On behalf of all veterans groups, I wish to thank the Mayor, the Commissioners, the Board of Education and the school principals and most of all, the students of Union City.

The veterans visited two high schools, seven grammar schools and two Union City Day Care sites where they were entertained and where they discussed their experiences with the students. I want to thank the students of Union City for all of the thoughtful essays and poems written to honor all veterans.

My thanks are also extended to the veterans of American Legion Post 14, Union City, and their Commander Paul Novembre for their help and support in setting up the school visits. I would be remiss not to thank Gale Kaufman, Millie Villarreal and George Pycik for their help and guidance.

A special thanks goes to Adriana Birnes, director of Union City Day Care, for our wonderful visits with the children at the 35th Street and 47th Street centers. The veterans gave over 400 American flags to the Day Care students for their wonderfufl show of patriotism.

All of the veterans involved were moved to know that we are not forgotten in Union City.
