Kenny elected state senate majority leader

State Senate Democratic Leader Richard Codey announced Thursday the unanimous election of State Sen. Bernard Kenny, Jr., of Hoboken to be Democratic Senate Majority Leader for the legislative term that begins in January.

Kenny represents the 33rd legislative district, including Hoboken, Weehawken, part of Jersey City, Union City, West New York and Guttenberg.

Hudson County’s legislators are now in prominent positions of the state government, as Assemblyman Albio Sires, who also serves as mayor of West New York, was chosen to be the state assembly majority leader two weeks ago.

Last week, the senate Democrats also elected assistant leaders, a whip, and a leader pro tempore.

"I am extremely proud of this leadership team," Codey said.
