The 2001 Hudson Reporter All-Area Boys’ Soccer Team is filled with players who rose above adversity and were able to perform at the highest level for their respective teams this season.
HCIAA Champion Hudson Catholic leads the way with four honorees, including senior Eric Nobre, who has been named as the Reporter Offensive Player of the Year. Nobre, who was moved to defense in the HCIAA playoff run, scored 15 goals and added eight assists for the Hawks, who successfully defended their HCIAA crown.
Also named to the team were goalkeeper Bruce Neves, midfielder Victor Kotynski and defender Erik Dolaghan. All four players are also repeat performers on last year’s All-Area team.
St. Peter’s Prep, which enjoyed a surprising season and won the HCIAA regular season title, placed two players on the team, including senior defender Nick Hamilton, who was named the Reporter Defensive Player of the Year. Hamilton was the stalwart on a Prep back line that posted nine straight shutouts during one portion of the season.
John Irvine, who guided the Marauders to the championship game in what was supposed to be a rebuilding season, was named the Coach of the Year.
McNair Academic’s Alberico DePierro, who scored a county-high 44 goals, including 14 hat tricks this season, tallied 99 goals for his career and just missed being named Offensive Player of the Year, along with Drew Buzzio of Prep, who scored an amazing eight game-winning goals this season.
