Division of scams and entrapment

Dear Editor:

I am writing to complain about what I believe is a deliberate attempt by the Parking Authority to trick drivers into parking illegally.

My in-laws visited town recently and parked on Second Street between Hudson and River, adjacent to our apartment building in a metered space. A sign post next to the spot spelled out the rules: No overnight parking Thursday, Friday or Saturday and a two-hour limit during the day the rest of the week. Since they appeared to be within all of the outlined rules, they parked there. However, down the street a different sign notified people of street cleaning on Wednesday morning from 10 to 11.

This doesn’t make sense. All of the regulations should be on a single sign post. If a driver has to go searching up and down the street to determine all possible violations, where does it stop? Do you have to circle the block and read signs on adjacent streets? Stand on your head and read signs posted in an alternate dimension?

I paid the $25 fine for my in-laws because it seemed too much trouble to fight it, which I am sure is exactly what the thieving parking authority had in mind.
