A poem about Veterans Day

Dear Editor:

I have written a poem about Veterans Day. It is dedicated to all fallen soldiers of any war.

Day of the fallen soldiers

The rain poured down in Arlington

The sky was dark and gray

All throughout the cemetery there was no one

Not a sound was made on this dreary day!

The echoes of the fallen Cried out loud and clear

A booming noise like fire from a cannon!

crying ‘Remember us! Oh! Hear our pleas’, we fear

That the living goes on without recall

So many years have come and gone

And all our efforts have gone with us to the grave upon our fall

No longer are we remembered for our bravery which with our very lives we gave

In the name of Democracy!

We have fought in so many wars

a million miles away

We’ve suffered so many casualties

for what purpose, can you give us any?

What is our reward?

To lie in some shallow grave out here

year after lonely year

Whilst the living benefit from the fruit of our labors

Is this fair?

So sad, So very sad

So very dark and lonely there

Amongst the rows and rows of American flags waving in the air

and miles and miles of poppies strewn all over Arlington National Cemetery

The dead cry in lament

because nobody even cares!
