Marine View whiners are selfish and hypocritical

Dear Editor:

In reading the responses to Michael Barry’s letter, I am sickened, once again, by the selfishness of the people of Marine View. As a neighbor of Marine View, and resident of Applied Housing, I have had the displeasure of hearing their complaining on a daily basis. Residents of Marine View just want and want. I don’t know how it’s possible that these people even think they have an argument.

To begin, we are talking about RENTAL homes. These people have no property value and will not gain or lose when they choose to move. But, who are we kidding? We are talking about rent-controlled apartments. None of these people will ever leave. It’s not good enough for them, that they were lucky enough to snag one of these rare finds.

But, they have to harp and harp because they are losing their view. This is what it all comes down to, their view. They complain about the aesthetics of the new building-c’mon, look at your gray monstrosities. They complain about the inconsiderate construction workers, then cross the street and use Hudson Square North (an Applied building) as a toilet for their dogs. They complain about there being no “airways” in the new building, but neglect to see how ugly it makes the neighborhood look with airways consisting of dirt paths to Garbage View Plaza. To the pots of Marine View Plaza, you’re black! I thought it was an idea well known, but let me tell you; unless your building is actually on the water, you will never have a guaranteed view of Manhattan. You lost yours. Get over it. And if you don’t like it, leave your rent-controlled apartment and go find another one in Hoboken. A feat we know is all but impossible.
