I urge all Hoboken residents to support my picks on Election Day!

Dear Editor:

This Tuesday, November 6 is Election Day, and its outcome will have a far reaching effect on our City and our state. All Hoboken residents should carefully consider for whom they will vote and turn out this Tuesday to cast their ballot. This simple act not only gives us a voice in the administration of our democracy, it sends a powerful message around the world that our democracy is indeed thriving in the face of terrorism.

Regardless of for whom Hoboken voters choose this Tuesday, I hope you will consider joining me in supporting a fine group of candidates that are intelligent, well-qualified, and dedicated to serving the people of Hoboken.

Closest to home, there are special elections to fill unexpired terms on the Hoboken City Council. After representing Hoboken’s Sixth Ward for 16 years, I am proud to support A. ‘Nino’ Giacchi to be Sixth Ward Councilman. Nino is someone in whom I place great confidence to bring professionalism, competence and strong representation to the City Council on behalf of Sixth Ward residents.

In the Fourth Ward, I am proud to support Christopher Campos for Council. Chris continues the fine example set by his predecessor, Ruben Ramos, Jr. Chris is also a fine example to our children. Having raised himself up from a difficult childhood, he went on to college and law school, and has returned to Hoboken to give back to his community. In just the first three months Chris Campos has made a lasting contribution to our City. Working together, Chris and I were able to put into action a plan to build a park on the former site of the Jackson Street garage. I hope all voters in the Fourth Ward will give Chris the opportunity to continue the tone of hard work has established.

At the State level, I am proud to support for re-election State Senator Bernard F. Kenny, Jr. Bernie has been a personal friend of mine for many years, and he has been a friend to all of us in Hoboken while representing us in Trenton. He has brought millions of dollars in state funding back to Hoboken to help improve our quality of life in very direct ways, such as a state grants to help complete portions of our waterfront walkway, thousands of dollars to maintain and refurbish City memorials, and state funds to support our teachers.

Running with Senator Kenny for Assembly are Albio Sires and Rafael Fraguela. Along with Senator Kenny, these men are dedicated public servants and strong friends of Hoboken who will give us solid representation in Trenton.

Of the utmost importance is for Hoboken to finally have a friend in the Governor’s Office. Therefore, I proudly support Jim McGreevey to be our next Governor. We need a Governor who understands New Jersey families’ needs, and Jim McGreevey will work with Senator Kenny, Albio Sires, and Rafael Fraguela to enact the laws and policies that are in the best interests of Hoboken. Jim McGreevey is on the right side of the issues that concern Hoboken’s families, on improving our schools, protecting the environment, saying ‘no’ to concealed weapons, and reducing property taxes.

I hope all Hoboken voters will come out this Tuesday, November 6 to support this fine group of candidates. Under a new state rule, the polls will open one hour earlier at 6 a.m. and they will close at 8 p.m.

Let’s send a message to those who are enemies of our great nation that they may try to knock down our buildings, but they will never topple our democracy.
