Credit where credit is due

Dear Editor:

In response to the October 28 letter from Lorna Courtney-Martinez, she has every right to argue the merits or deficiencies of Marine View vs 333 River Street. The wonderful thing about the USA is that we are all entitled to our opinion and have the ability to express it.

I do, however, take exception to her last comment about what the Barry family has contributed to Hoboken. There are many senior citizens and lower income families living in housing that was made affordable for them by the Barry family.

The Barry family has for three generations, been offering affordable apartments to our neighbors. They clean and maintain the buildings, as well as taking an interest to provide social activities for their tenants. Their affordable buildings look better than some so called "luxury living quarters."

They have also contributed to the open space. If you have not ventured to the north end of town and walked out on the pier at 14th Street, you should certainly do so. It is only one of their open air projects, is open to the public and is truly delightful.

Can you name any other developer that has done that? I think that is a rather large contribution and should not be overlooked.

That last comment was really out of line. Let’s give credit where credit is due.
