Healing arts Maxwell’s to host music benefit

Hudson County’s music mecca, Maxwell’s, is hosting a benefit concert for the victims of the terror attacks on the World Trade Center tonight (Thursday, Oct. 18) from 8 to 11 p.m. The fundraiser was organized by Jolly Roger Management, the Hoboken-based management company that represents and cultivates up-and-coming musical artists.

Jolly Roger artist Frank Bango will kick off the evening at 8 p.m. Bango recently released what Request magazine called the "perfect pop album." Entitled Fugitive Girls, the CD is currently available for purchase on www.amazon.com.

At 8:30 p.m. the Alabama-born singer/songwriter Shanna Sharp will take the stage. Sharp is a graduate of Broadway’s Circle In The Square theater school and lives in Manhattan. Her music tells the story of her life and relationships. She is currently working on a new CD.

The Hoboken-based duo 2, featuring singer/songwriters Joe Condiracci and David Leatherwood, will take the stage at 9 p.m. 2 are known for their breathtaking harmonies, elegant guitar interplay and well-crafted songs. Condiracci is also known for his mixed drinks – earlier in his career, he was a bartender at Maxwell’s.

Singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Daly will follow at 9:30 p.m. Daly has been a member of the critically acclaimed band Whiskeytown since 1997. He has also recorded and performed with The Pernice Brothers, Amy Rigby, and Dave Bryson of the Counting Crows. He is currently working on his debut solo album.

The New York City-based power pop band The Rooks, featuring Michael Mazzarella, Kristen Pinell, Lauren Agnelli and Ken Anderson, will take the stage at 10 p.m. Mazzarella, the group’s singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist, has not only recorded, but also produced several albums at Jolly Roger Recording on Clinton Street.

The evening will end with the smooth sounds of D. Plumbers, featuring Hoboken’s favorite plumber and musician Gene Turonis. The group will cook up their familiar swing, country, Cajun, and rock-a-billy sounds.

There is a suggested $10 donation. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. For more information call 656-3936 or visit Jolly Roger’s web site at www.jollyrogermanagement.com.
