Let’s give credit where credit is due

Dear Editor:

Anyone who recognizes the clear and positive changes that Stack’s administration has brought to Union City in less than a year should support his upcoming election. Among many significant improvements Stack has been able to stabilize taxes, reducing a percentage and presenting and putting in an effective plan that will lead to a property tax reduction during his next four years in City Hall. He has placed more policemen in the streets, more car patrols, keeping his word to fight crime. He has already closed down six bars and is planning to shut down more establishments that invite rowdy crowds and crime.

I have witnessed how he has attended town meetings, taking into consideration the needs of our ethnically diverse community. Stack has listened and acted in every way possible to resolve the problems facing our neighborhoods.

He works 16-hour days. He has no weekends or vacations. Stack has consistently fought for the right of tenants while he is trying very hard to answer the needs of property owners. Under his administration, streets have been paved, buildings renovated and has turned a $1.5 million deficit into a surplus.

Just think where we were 11 months ago: political upheaval, financial irresponsibility, a $16 million debt, rampant political appointments and hirings, a politicized police department, and a city fractionalized by deep and bitter divisions.

In 11 months, Brian Stack has turned Union City around. He has truly practiced what he preaches. Yet, a minority of bitter political rivals that insist on taking us back to the old way of doing politics, launches from the shadows anonymous pamphlets full of personal and irrelevant attacks. It is time for them to join those of us who truly want Union City to achieve its full potential. It has been a long road for Stack’s supporters to help him achieve his dream; he hasn’t let us down.

The fact is that no one can honestly dispute his leadership, dedication and achievements in such a short and turbulent time.
