Quest to construct amphitheater in LSP needs to be permanently rejected

Dear Editor:

This is regarding SFX and Liberty State Park Development Corporation’s quest to construct a permanent amphitheater in Liberty State Park.

SFX’s bid for this proposal was rejected by the Department of Environmental Protection for the year 2001. But SFX fully intends, with the influential endorsement of the LSP Development Corp, to resubmit their petition for approval for the coming years. Eventually the Dept. of Environmental Protection will cave in to their appeals, which will result in a dreadful encroachment of the sanctity of Liberty State Park. The SFX amphitheater will be the site of a series of 20 concerts through the summer-fall seasons, and many will be rock concerts.

Liberty State Park was the realization of Morris Pesin’s green-dream; trees, grass and natural habitats. SFX and LSP Development Corp also have dreams of green. Trees and grass do not figure into their green dream, although many rock concert patrons have an appreciation for good "grass." The green they envision is the color of the buck that will make its way back into their deep pockets.
