Dear Editor:
There is shame on those who are smearing The Confederate Flag.
The question is where does power reside, with us and through us, our elected officials at the city, county and state levels, or should all power reside in Washington DC?
Are we a national government, or a federation of sovereign states?
Our Constitution created a federation of sovereign states! These states temporarily delegated a few of their powers to a federal government for specific purposes with 18 powers outlined in Our Constitution, mainly to provide a common currency, a common standard of measurements, a common defense and a common foreign and trade policy! And each state is to live within these boundaries!
Our Constitution and Our Republic is not compatible with socialism, socialists and communists. But immigration has had an effect on American culture and politics.
Big business was, of course, one of the first to embrace centralism, since the robber barons recognized that it was cheaper to bribe only one set of politicians than to have to do so in each of the separate states. Yes, there are times when big business like big government.
Today many Americans understand that the idea that Washington knows best is a false idea.
Jeff Davis said that a question settled by force and violence remains forever unsettled and will rise again. And so it was with our Civil War or War Between the States!
The more we Americans examine our beliefs and ask ourselves why we call ourselves Conservative or Liberal, Libertarian or Socialists, the more we will see that it boils down to how much power our government should have and how that power should be distributed.
The question came into being in 1776 and is still with us today. Where do you stand!
