Dear Editor:
Like all parents, we must take a keen interest in our children’s education and again like all parents, we want them to have educational opportunities we did not have. We have been extremely fortunate as our daughters have had the benefit of not just one, but two excellent school systems.
Our Secaucus system gave them both a solid foundation and taught them that learning can be fun and sometimes even exciting. We can’t say enough about the real interest our teachers and administrators take in the students. Many thanks to our schools Superintendent Gus Scerbo, Principals Pat Cocucci, Ralph Merlo, Pat Impreveduto, Fred Ponti and former Principals Charlotte Podesta and Peggy Firtion, all the teachers and staff for a great job.
Our daughters now attend High Tech High School, part of Hudson County’s Schools of Technology. This is another great place where learning is enjoyable, students encourage and help each other, stressful competition amongst students is non-existent, and students are given a greater role in decision making. We applaud Superintendent Frank Gargiulo, Principal Karol Brancato and the entire staff of wonderful, caring educators for their total dedication to developing young minds and characters. As we prepare our oldest daughter for Harvard this fall, we do so fully realizing that it would not have been possible without the efforts of all these fine people in both systems.
We would also like to encourage everyone to take an interest in their schools. It is important to remember that, after you boil it all down, there is only one really critical issue we should concern ourselves with; are our school administrators and educators going the extra mile to help mold and develop our children to meet the challenges of the 21st century. It is such an important responsibility and in our opinion, both Secaucus and the County are doing a fantastic job meeting their responsibility.
