Man arrested for stealing credit card

A Steven’s Institute of Technology housing employee was arrested April 27 for theft of credit card and forgery after confessing to police detectives during questioning, according to police. Sean Leonard Desmet, 21, broke into the room of a student living a few doors down from his room and took her wallet, police charged. Police were able to identify Desmet after security cameras at a store in Jersey City caught him using one credit card to purchase items, according to police. Desmet is set to appear in court this week.

Hung out to dry

The coin box of a washing machine in the basement of a Hoboken Housing Authority building on 8th Street was broken off on April 26. The Housing Authority told police the washing machine was turned to the side and someone took the coin box. It is unknown how much money was taken from the washer, according to police.

E-Z Pass E-Z Gone

A man washing his car at a car wash on Observer Highway April 23 told police the E-Z Pass device in his car was taken while the car was being cleaned. The man said he kept his car in a locked garage after it was washed and later in the evening he noticed the E-ZPass was missing, according to police.

Now you see it, now you don’t

A Trek 800 black 27-inch frame mountain bike was stolen from the Hoboken PATH station April 26, according to police. The owner of the bike said he left it chained to a fence and when he returned the bike was missing. The bike’s features included an odometer, light system, a leather pouch attached to the seat, and an air pump.

Tabs nabbed

A grocery store owner on Jefferson Street told police that on May 3 from 5:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. someone stole two bundles of newspapers from the front of his store. The two newspapers taken were the New York Post and the New York Daily News. Each bundle consisted of 15 newspapers. According to police, the owner of the store said the newspaper theft was not the first time it happened.

On the horn no more

From April 25 to May 3, four cellular telephones were reported stolen.
