Boy Scouts thank Earth Day volunteers

Dear Editor:

The Boy Scouts of Troop 146 would like to thank the many volunteers who turned out to work with us this past Earth Day, especially members of the Stevens Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity and parishioners from our sponsor, Sts. Peter & Paul Church.

This year’s Earth Day was special for us because it was done as an Eagle project by one of our Scouts, Will Purcell. In the weeks prior, Will worked with Tim Calligy’s Department of Environmental Services to plan the event and then took over supervision of all the volunteers who came to help.

The project was a great success. Its purpose was to spruce up the city’s “northern gateway,” the first thing that people see when they drive into Hoboken from the north. Thanks to a lot of hard work, the first impression they get now will be trees and flowers.
