An open letter to the Hoboken community

Dear Editor:

During this school year, we developed an after-school tutoring program for third and fourth grade students at the Connor Elementary School. Our initial goal was to establish a community service program where the newer residents of Hoboken could volunteer some of their time and talent to the community.

In our years in Hoboken, we too often heard of accounts that the younger residents did not contribute to the community. We are glad to report that over 30 volunteers tutor students on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

We would also like to thank Ms. Morales, vice principal of the Connor School and Mr. Jerry Kiely, a school administrator, whose efforts have made this program possible. Each has taken time out of their lives to go above and beyond their job descriptions. Both are truly devoted to the education of Hoboken’s children.

We would also like to thank Superintendent Gagliardi who has also provided support.
