Mayor Brian P. Stack of Union City is to be commended and congratulated on his appointment of Tilo Ernesto Rivas to the Union City Board of Education.
As a member of the Dominican and Hispanic population of Union City, I am proud that our culture is now represented on the policy making board which governs the school our children are attending.
Mr. Rivas is a person of outstanding character, a professional and community activist, and he will bring great talent and perspective to the Board. The Dominican community is proud of him.
But even greater praise goes to Mayor Brian Stack. With this appointment he has demonstrated his understanding of the cultural diversity that is Union City. With this appointment he has demonstrated that diversity is not something to be tolerated but a resource to be celebrated.
