PCs belong in the Smithsonian, not in Hoboken High School

Dear Editor:

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of touring Hoboken High School during a PTA meeting. I was quite impressed with the facilities and instructors. My son is a freshman student, and this is the first chance I’ve had to see the school since the 1970’s when I was a student there.

To my amazement, I discovered that there were two things they were supposed to dispose of during the last 20 years. The first item was the federally mandated removal of asbestos, which I trust was done as well as possible. The second item that they should be working on is the replacement of their 1980’s IBM PCs. Yes we’re lucky to have a PC at home. But imagine how some of the students feel when they come to school and are told to work on what should be a Smithsonian electronic dinosaur.

To solve this deficiency in modern equipment may I make a suggestion? Take the equivalent of 20 new residents and apply their property taxes for one year to the purchase of new equipment in the school.
