A letter to the Citizens of Hoboken

Dear Editor:

To those who do not know me, I ask a few moments of your time to present myself. My name is Carrie Gilliard, I have lived in Hoboken for the past 25 years. I am a mother of three sons, family ties are very important to me; we must keep family in the forefront of the development of Hoboken.

One of the reasons I decided to run for Council-At-Large is: I believe in the Constitution of my country. It affords me the opportunity to participate in the democratic process. I believe our City Council needs more independent voices to represent the people of this city we all love.

On May 8th the voters of Hoboken will elect the Council-At-Large (three seats) and I am one of several candidates asking for your support. As an independent, I will work very hard and do what is right for the citizens, putting your concerns and issues first. Remember, Vote 17B, Tuesday, May 8th, you have the opportunity to choose an independent voice for “your” City Council.

As an elected official of Hoboken Board of Education, I have always been an advocate for doing what is right for the children. I have proven my independence by taking a stand on several issues, which were not in the best interest of the students; even when I had to stand alone, I had the courage to hold my position, bringing several issues to a successful conclusion.

I will be an independent effective voice on the City Council. I pledge to work hard and continue to fight for justice and better living conditions for all the people in the city of Hoboken.

I do not have a “war chest” to compete with the “machine” but I believe it is the citizens who have the ultimate power.

“A Voice That Makes A Difference.”

Carrie Gilliard
