Streamlined government, try steamrolled government

Dear Editor:

I could not help but laugh and ponder about the advertisement in the 3/26/01 edition of the Hoboken Reporter on the end page. According to the Russo team the past eight years in Hoboken have been champagne wishes. What Hoboken have they been living in, the one in bizarro world? I would like to address some of the false fallacies in the ad such as more parks and open space, more parking, better schools, more cops on the beat, cleaner streets, more affordable housing, and streamlined government. What parks are you talking about? The privately enclosed backyard on 13th and Willow Ave. Or the 20′ x 15′ patch of barren grass on Observer Highway and Jackson Street? Where I should remind you is a death trap waiting to happen as a result of the continuous flow of high speed and erratic traffic in that area. I’m certain you would not see any of the Russo team children playing in that “park” anytime soon. Open Space? Do I really have to address this one being that there is no open space period? Every bit of space has been politically sold to the over developers since 1992.

More parking? Where in Jersey City or fantasy land because you certainly cannot park in Hoboken without driving around for a minimum of an hour while hundreds of out of state registered vehicles occupy rightfully deserved Hoboken residents parking spaces. This is a violation of New Jersey State Law which clearly stipulates that new residents in the state have sixty days to register, insure, and transfer their vehicle registration and drivers license with the State of New Jersey as a resident in order to operate their vehicles in the state legally. When yet there are vehicles with 1990 parking permits and still have out of state plates. Should the N.J. State Police get involved, absolutely!

Better schools? Take a look at the substandard barbaric students in the high school. More cops on the beat? Or, more politically appointed cops on the beat to be exact. Cleaner streets? Look again Tony, because I pick up a ton of trash just on my block alone weekly at my expense for trash bags. Affordable housing? Tell that to the original Hobokenites who have been forced out of town as a result of affordable housing. Streamlined government, try steamrolled government.
