Hurley’s horse wins Fountain of Youth, may head to Kentucky Derby

Jersey City native Bobby Hurley, the former St. Anthony and Duke basketball All-American who spent six years in the NBA, has made the successful transition into another career – that being a stakes-winning thoroughbred race horse owner.

Hurley’s $1 million colt, Songandaprayer, shocked the field at the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park recently to win going away by almost two lengths and paid $38 to win, which had to make a lot of Hurley loyalists very happy.

Songandaprayer, ridden by Edgar Prado, jumped out for the lead early on and just kept motoring, all the way to the finish line.

Hurley promised that if his prize colt won at the Fountain of Youth, then the upcoming Florida Derby, that he would take the horse to race in the granddaddy of all horse races, namely the Run for the Roses, the Kentucky Derby, on the first weekend of May.
