Letter on ‘Real issues in the Mideast’ must be addressed

Dear Editor:

As a longtime Jewish resident of Hoboken, I am compelled to respond to the letter of “the 78 year old senior citizen.”

In his letter he states, “with willing support of the United States the Israelis have treated the Palestinians like Hitler treated the Jews.”

As a child of Holocaust survivors whose entire families were annihilated by Hitler’s systematic destruction of the Jewish people, I find Mr. Morgan’s statement and comparison, outrageous and untrue.

It trivializes this most horrific and categorically incomparable crime, and belittles what occurred to my family and people only 60 years ago.

As a human being and world citizen, I have also been disheartened and often outraged by the harsh retaliation that the Israeli military has adopted to the crisis. However, the distinction must be made that this is a conflict over land, title and sovereignty.

There is no event in modern history that compares to the Holocaust in which an entire people were slaughtered for no other reason than that were Jewish. I for one will not tolerate the kind of comparison and thinking that this individual suggests in his letter, without a response (even if it is from a seemingly benign elderly Hoboken senior citizen.)
