Let’s get a piece of that action!

Dear Editor:

On January 6, 2001, the New York papers made a big deal out of the Port Authority of NY and NJ giving $85 million for a park in Brooklyn. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Imagine $85 million for a park in New York City. I wonder why??? The great mayor of New York, the Honorable Mr. Giuliani, has put great pressure on the Port Authority, and it paid off.

Let’s compare NY to NJ. We have the white elephant in Journal Square, then there is the pollution, traffic and the toll booths which I thought were to be switched between NY and NJ.

Now let us look at New York, they have two major airports to our one, the World Trade Center (worth over $10 billion).

Maybe it is time for our local mayors to start being more vocal and ask, what happened to the toll booths being switched back and forth between NY and NJ? Where are the 1800 Port Authority police (mostly in New York)? Why do people have to travel to 42nd Street to get long distance buses? Why aren’t there any signs coming out of the Holland Tunnel telling people they are in Jersey City and no signs for Jersey City when you come from the Lincoln Tunnel?

I suggested long ago that Weehawken and Jersey City should get a quarter (25 cents) for each car that travels through the tunnel. Wake up New Jersey. $85 million, $85 million.
