Garcia was trying to tear town apart

Dear Editor:

I am utterly appalled at Rudy Garcia’s latest string of snide remarks and searing inaccuracies. In the October 15, 2000 article “Garcia’s Turn,” the Don of duplicity and seller of souls dares to say, “Even in politics you should have a level of morality and competency,” in an attempt to denigrate the unblemished reputations of Commissioners Leggiero and Yandolino. Garcia bases this unfounded innuendo on the fact that Michael Leggiero and Tina Yandolino had the integrity, backbone and foresight to table his two doomed, one shot tax loophole stadium and bus depot deals.

President and CEO of a multimillion dollarcommunity service organization, loving family man, active church member and tireless civic leader, Michael A. Leggiero is the very picture of a moral, competent and wise civic leader; to question this, I feel, proves how desperate Rudy is to muddy the waters of progress with futile fantasies of grandeur.

I cannot believe Garcia, a man who as I write this, is striving to tear apart our peaceful and respectful multicultural community by separating my friends and neighbors into different camps based only on one’s race or ethnicity, dares to question the honor or capability of Commissioners Leggiero and Yandolino. This Mayor is the epitome of immorality; to deliberately attempt to cause discord, disharmony and distrust among your neighbors solely for your personal gain.

As Rudy has proven time and time again, he is not man enough to atone for his transgressions, so I would like on behalf of my likeminded Union City neighbors, to apologize for Garcia’s unfounded and unethical remarks about two very fine individuals.

Commissioners Leggiero and Yandolino, we are behind you 100% as you strive to free us of the monetary morass Rudy Garcia has driven us into. We trust you, respect you and we deeply thank you.
