Trick or treat! What the kids are wearing for Halloween

Take a good look at these charming second graders from West New York’s P.S. 2, because they might not be as recognizable when they’re all dressed up for Halloween on Tuesday, Oct. 31. But the kids were so excited to share their costume ideas that residents can read this sneak peak of what kinds of ghoulish creatures will be appearing at their door on the spooky day. (The kids also wanted their neighbors to note that they will be out looking for candy, not raisins or pennies.)

Laura Hannon
“My mom was thinking about making me a princess,” said Hannon, 7. “I have a long skirt at home that’s pink. I’m going to look like Cinderella. My mom and my dad and my brother call me princess all the time.”

Claudia Bonilla
“I’m going to be a ‘Silver Star Princess’ with a white dress, a crown and a star and stick,” said Bonilla, 8. “I love the crown, and the dress is beautiful. My mom made the dress; she works in a factory.”

Leuris Cantallops
“I’m going to be Scream 3, the guy with the mask and the knife,” said Cantallops, 7. “I think it’s scary, and I want to scare everyone.”

Hannon interrupted, “Scream 1, Scream 2, Scream 3 all have the same costumes; just a different killer. Why are you saying Scream 3? I saw all three of them, and they weren’t even scary. Even my 3-year-old cousin saw Scream 3. I just can’t watch when they cut the stomachs, because I get freaked out. I cover my eyes.”

“I saw them too,” said Cantallops. “I’m allowed because I don’t have dreams. My sister gets nightmares, but I don’t.”

Julio Bonilla
“I’m going to be a doctor on Halloween,” said Bonilla, 7. “It’s going to be like I’m saving a person, like I’m operating. I want to be two things when I grow up – a doctor and an explorer. Doctors are exciting, because they save people. Explorers get to find dinosaurs by digging up their bones. They’re ancient, I know, but they’re fun.”

Andrea Murgado
“I’m going to be a genie, like Aladdin rubbing the lamp,” said Murgado. “The costume is nice. It has my favorite colors – pink and brown. I also like it because of the song ‘Genie in a Bottle.’ I like Christina Aguilera.”

Jean Freyre
“I’m going to be an old man,” said Freyre, 8. “My mother chose it, but I like it too. I’m wearing an old suit and a mask with a long nose and a beard. It had lots of wrinkles and spots. It’s scary. My little scary is scared of my mask.”
