Letter to the editor was fraudulent

Dear Editor: Recently, I became aware of a letter published in the Hoboken Reporter on April 2, 2000, attacking a friend of mine Carmelo Garcia better known to me as (Memo). Apparently, Carmelo does not know me by my full name, only as Tammy, but he was able to track me down and we talked about this fraudulent letter. First of all, I am upset that George Ortiz abused my trust by deceiving me “in saying that I was signing a petition protecting the Housing Authority tenants and that if the Reporter called just say yes I’m in agreement.” Later I find out it was a letter to the editor attacking Carmelo, who I’ve never had one bit of displeasure towards. I am apologizing to Carmelo for this public inconvenience that I had no knowledge of or agreed to. I know Carmelo to be a serious, respectable, family man who cares abut his community. I would never try to degrade or speak negatively about him or anyone. It is a shame that some people during election time use those deceitful tactics to degrade other people. Unfortunately, we the innocent are put in the middle of disgraceful events like this. I am happy that Carmelo understands the way his opposition operates. But I trust that those who know him realize he is one unique individual with a heart of gold. Tamaira Borrero
