Dear Editor: I must commend your publication for informing the public on the special treatment being granted to developers of the “Columbus” Condominiums now under construction on 9th Street at Columbus Park. Favors that have closed a children’s playground. A much needed recreation space in the 5th Ward while Mayor Russo and George Crimmins serve up poor excuses via the “conditions of the tennis courts.” A small but important fact they forget to mention is that the mayor’s wife, (and school board trustee) Michele is also employed by the exclusive real estate broker for these condos. A broker that also represents the original developer who was granted 10 percent lot coverage by a zoning board dominated by school board employees. Hmmm. At a recent council meeting Councilman Dave Roberts, Councilman Ruben Ramos and myself sponsored a resolution seeking monetary compensation and an expeditious resolve for the city and the county for this inconvenient situation. The resolution was shoved aside and tabled by the mayor=s team of council people Once again over development, power and greed continue to undermine quality of life her in Hoboken. Now that your paper has exposed this situation I will once again attempt to reintroduce a resolution to bring some temporary compensation to our children’s recreational needs. I suggest the developer and the real estate agents in this venture make a substantial donation to our summer recreational program “Art in the Park.” We need to see some benefit to this condo madness.
