Beware of hazardous

Dear Editor: Being a Hoboken resident for 29 years, I have only recently experienced a recurring problem with the increased amount of traffic coming from the alley between Hudson and Washington Streets. On numerous occasions, in the past two months, I have been in near accident situations while walking past the alley on Second and Third Streets. The cars come flying out into the street and do not appear to slow down until nearing the street intersection. I have had to jump back to keep from getting hit. I have also experienced similar problems while driving on the side streets and having to make sudden stops to avoid hitting cars that speed out from the alley into the street. I am not sure if there is a specific law determining what type of traffic is permitted in the alleys but I always thought that drivers were not permitted to use the alleys for regular commuting. There is an obvious increase in traffic in our city that has required pedestrians and drivers alike to become increasingly cautious and careful while commuting. If the alleys are being utilized by drivers more regularly, perhaps the city should consider safety precautions such as stop signs or closer monitoring and regulation of traffic laws. Hoboken has developed into a densely populated little city where commuting has become more dangerous, hectic and less enjoyable. Let”s please try and enjoy our time here by keeping it safe.
