New Jersey City University’s Contemporary Chamber Ensemble will play at the Ingalls Recital Hall (2039 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, 200-3151) at 8 p.m. Sultry jazz vocalist Lyell Gressit will perform at the Iron Monkey from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. John Doe and Mike Errico play Maxwell’s at 9 p.m.
Friday, May 12:
Dance all night to the spinning of the best 70s, 80s and 90s music at the Liberty Bar & Grill’s DJ Party. See Blaze of Glory smoke up the room at Jimmy D’s at 10:30 p.m. Jazz musicians from the band Perception will entertain diners and loungers at the Iron Monkey from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Saturday, May 13:
The Bukas Palad Music Ministry, a Christian group composed of friends from the Ateno school in the Philippines, will perform at Our Lady of Mercy Church (40 Sullivan Drive Jersey City, 451-4204) at 7:30 p.m. Maxwell’s presents American Standard, Demonspeed and The Nolan Gate at 10 p.m. And as always, Scotland Yards will host a Blues Jam with Joe Taino all night.
Sunday, May 14:
Thought your week was tough? Check out what Jack Nicholson goes through when he’s sent to the loony bin in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, being screened at the Liquid Lounge’s Sunday Cinema series. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., so enjoy an early drink with the free classic flick. Rudy Ray Morre (a.k.a. “Dolemite”) will play at Maxwell’s at 9p.m.

Former Hoboken resident Nora Jacobson shows her latest film effort My Mother’s Early Lovers at Hudson Street Cinemas (First and Hudson St., Hoboken, 217-4077) tonight at 7:30. Based on her autobiographical memoir, the film is about a young woman who uncovers a secret at the heart of her family’s history while exploring her mother’s past.
Tuesday, May 16:
Maxwell’s is where it’s at with two turntables and microphone to present Kick Out the Jams DJ Series, featuring Dennis Diken. The free show starts at 8. You might have missed out on seeing your mom on Mother’s Day, but you can still see Lil’ Mama tonight jamming the blues at Scotland Yard.

Hot jazz band Pale Fire is featured at the Iron Monkey’s Wednesday Jam Night from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. The Bangs, The Crowns and Sarah Dougher together make a full head and great night of music at Maxwell’s starting at 9.
