Kleon celebrates 47th year: One of the oldest furniture stores in New Jersey marks anniversary

Located at 1701 Summit Ave. in Union City for the past 11 years and in Hoboken for 36 years, Kleon sells high-quality merchandise at low prices. “Forty-seven years is a long time,” said owner Leon Klein, “and I have seen a lot of changes in that time. The biggest change was in Hoboken. The city went from a run-down town with cold water flats (that’s apartments with no hot water) to what it is today. The factory building that my father started Kleon in in order to be able to sell at prices lower than any other furniture store is today a beautiful co-op.” Leon added, “The only thing that hasn’t changed is my father’s three Golden Rules. One, you have to satisfy the customer 100 percent. If she is unhappy with her purchase, exchange it for another selection, with no questions asked. Two, give the customer the best price anywhere. Or give her back double the difference, if she finds it for less anywhere. Three, only sell the best quality and back it with the longest warranty of any furniture store.” Kleon sells only high-quality at low prices; not cheap quality at low prices with no service. If there is a problem, they will take care of it. They are proud of their “after-the-sale services.” “We want your lifetime business,” Leon said. “We have the grandchildren of our early customers coming from all over New Jersey to buy furniture for their homes. Because their parents and grandparents were happy with their purchases and the personalized service they received.” At Kleon, you are more than just a number. They will take the time to listen to you and solve any decorating problems. Not to try to sell you what they want. “You don’t stay in business for 47 years and build a reputation like ours overnight,” Leon said. “You have to satisfy every customer.”
