Dogs are lovable, their poops are not

An open letter to Hoboken dog owners: Maybe you could shed some light on a matter that has me vexed. Is there any reasonable explanation as to why a dog owner would choose not to clean up after his or her dog? Is the dog owner in question just lazy? Inconsiderate? Ignorant? Which is it? The only possible excuse I can think of is if the owner forgot his/her paper or bag to clean up with. If that has ever happened to you, I have a solution. If you find yourself in this situation, wherever you may be, go to the nearest garbage can (there is bound to be one nearby). Go in it, get a piece of paper or find a nearby weekly delivered circular (advertisement). Inevitably these are strewn all over the stoops and sidewalks. Use that to clean up your mess. Yes, this requires a little bit of effort and may be a distasteful solution to you, but do not forget that it is your responsibility to do whatever it takes to clean up your dog’s poop. Otherwise, I must once again open my door and be greeted with the sight and smell of your dog’s waste in front of my home. Come on, that is just not fair. Would you like it if I marched up to your front door and emptied my child’s messy diaper at your doorstep? Probably not. I have also observed that with the recent snow, this matter has gotten worse throughout all of Hoboken. The dog poop that people must have hidden under the snow is now revealed and one must really watch where they step to avoid a shoe full of waste. Pedestrians: be careful out there! Can anyone give me a reasonable explanation for any of this? I really would like to know. If not, please try to be more considerate of your neighbors and your neighborhood. Thanks. Diane Gutch
