Dear Editor: Good news for Bergen County citizens. Governor Whitman, November 10, 1999, Representative Roukema, January 28, 2000 and County Executive Schuber, January 10, 2000, have written Federal Aviation Administrator Garvey requesting live-testing of ocean routing. Representative Rothman is conspicuously absent from this list of respected elected officials representing Bergen County. The widely supported New Jersey Coalition Against Aircraft Noise (NJCAAN) ocean routing proposal is the same plan Rothman endorsed in November 1998 – during the heat of his campaign. Elected to a second term, he has failed to uphold that pledge and has chosen instead to wage a divide and conquer war within his own district citing highly flawed FAA data. It appears that Representative Rothman values his alliance with Representative Menendez and Continental Airlines over his interest in bringing real noise relief from Newark Airport. His self-serving conduct is what many disheartened Americans have come to expect of politicians. The current slate of presidential primaries demonstrates that citizens are broadly rejecting this conduct of allegiances to powerful industries who pay to play. Representative Rothman should set aside his career ambitions and act the part of a public servant towards Bergen County District 9 citizens. J.F. Perez
